The question of whether patients take certain prescription drugs is most often based on a doctor's recommendation (49%) and price (27.7%). In contrast, we relatively rarely (18%) take into account recommendations from pharmacists at the pharmacy.
We very rarely use substitutes
Participants in the survey usually stated that so far their doctor had not informed them during their visit about the possibility of using substitutes for the original medicines - characterised by analogous content of active substances and similar effects, but lower price. On the other hand, only less than 4% of respondents declared that they are informed of such a possibility every time a new medicine is prescribed.
Patients themselves also rather rarely take the initiative to ask the pharmacist or doctor for a substitute. As many as 45.7 % of respondents have so far never once made such a request. At the same time, almost one in five Poles is distrustful of drug substitutes, perceiving them as less effective and less safe. It is worthwhile researching the pharmaceutical market in order to stay abreast of consumer expectations.
